IMMERSIVE TECHNOLOGIES POWERING THE 4TH INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION

Recent reports indicate that the UK has to boost productivity levels to remain competitive and companies such as DHL, Boeing and BMW are already achieving significant improvements with the adoption of immersive hardware and software.

This panel will present case studies and expert advice for businesses wanting to begin integrating these technologies into workflows, training, communication or presentation to get better results in less time.

 COLLABORATIVE TECH: DRIVING INNOVATION

Advancements in Virtual and Mixed Reality are allowing creative teams from all over the world to collaborate in realtime within virtual environments. High-speed connectivity, coupled with more powerful processors in hardware are helping to break down the geographical barriers, meaning that virtual environments can serve as a new frontier for human endeavour – ideal for sharing ideas, training and reducing errors while saving on travel costs and reducing environmental impact.

This panel will feature case studies and companies driving the next generation of collaborative tools.

THE FUTURE OF IMMERSIVE TRAINING

Analogue training methods are, in many cases, failing to capture and retain the attention of the digital generation. The use of immersive technologies in education and training are allowing for higher levels (up to five times) of engagement, enriched data (though eye-tracking, heat maps etc) stimulated repetition, (which improves retention of content / development of skills) along with practical, safety and logistical benefits that make it one of the best options for a huge range of training scenarios. Our speakers will explore the current state of immersive training tools, addressing the huge potential while also recognising the challenges and suggesting how best to help develop the immersive training tools and techniques of tomorrow.

FUNDING, COLLABORATION & OPPORTUNITY: THE GATEWAYS TO FUTURE TECH

Innovate UK, Knowledge transfer network and Immerse UK will host a panel session exploring Funding for Future Technologies.

30 million funding for tech research.

Talk about who they are – they’ll be telling people what are the opportunities = how to navigate through etc funding options.

There are multiple sources of funding and support available in the public sector. Many immersive technology businesses are unaware of the publicly funded opportunities available, particularly across the many sectors where AR/VR is seeing rapid developments and change such as defence, construction and transport. This session will provide an overview of the sources on funding available for immersive technology businesses.

Join us to look at how, outside of VC’s and angel investors, UK businesses get their hands on funding and grants for R&D and innovation. This panel will look at publicly funded programmes, competitions and initiatives targeted at immersive technologies, which provide opportunities to develop ideas without sacrificing valuable equity or IP

AI & ROBOTICS – THE PATH TO A NEW ERA OF INTELLIGENCE

A huge change will sweep across the world in the next thirty years. As machine learning continues it’s ascent, strong Artificial Intelligence will usher in a new era for humanity. We need to begin having the conversations that will prepare us for this change: the impact it will have on our industries, the automation of jobs (and associated socio-cultural issues that will accompany it), the potential for error or misuse, the alignment problem and much more.

We also need to explore the current offerings and look at the best predictions of timelines for development, addressing the tech and platforms that are developing innovative AI solutions – particularly those that are integrating intelligence capacities within robotic hardware and the potential that this holds.

Session content and speakers will be announced soon.

Immersive tech has been described as a ‘sleeping giant’, which could prove to be a hugely disruptive force in the automotive sales world.

This session addresses how VR is being used to completely revolutionise product development among major car manufacturers, allowing their teams to ‘experience’ design changes long before cars go into production.  In tandem with this, we’ll examine current strategies for selling cars to tech-savvy millennials and asks how VR experiences can draw in customers, in a way that standard advertising methods cannot. Our speakers will also address the need for building bridges between the automotive (manufacturing) and VR industry to craft more effective immersive experiences for car makers.

The Digital Engineering and Test Centre (DETC) will be hosting this specialist panel session to discuss the current state of immersive tech in the Automotive industry.

HEALTHCARE 2.0 – TRAINING IN TECH

According to recent research by Goldman Sachs, by 2025 the global market for AR and VR healthcare technologies will be worth $5.1bn. From the recording and streaming of surgical procedures for educational purposes, to the treatment of disorders, pain relief, behavioural medicine, immersive chemistry and of course training, this tech is set to revolutionise modern medicine.

In the future, AIs will allow more personal, customised treatment for each patient – from data management to treatment planning, diagnostics, health assistants, precision medicine and customised drug creation, the potential for this tech is huge. However, when new technologies begin to transform the way we think, work and communi- cate, it’s vital to explore the social, cultural and personal impact they can have. With such a seismic shift, the public will need to feel reassured that these technologies have been implemented in a carefully considered fashion.

The rapid adoption of immersive tech and AI in medicine has thrown up a number of important questions that we’ll be addressing in our conference sessions:

  • How can immersive tech open the door to new ways of working and learning?
  • Are there ethical issues surrounding the use of these technologies?
  • Can we ensure access to these technologies in public healthcare systems?
  • Is the adoption of emergent tech in the best interests of the patient?
  • How do we balance current risks with future benefits?
  • When will AI become a viable diagnostic tool?

EDUCATION SESSION: EXPLORING THE POWER OF FUTURE TECH IN LEARNING

Technology is transforming all aspects of modern life. From national governance to social interaction, digital technologies have revolutionised the basic processes in all of our lives. It’s hardly surprising that one of the areas in which this change is being felt most profoundly, is the classroom.

As new technologies open the door to immersive experiences, it’s vitally important to get ahead of the curve. Throughout our Education Day (05 April), we will explore how immersive technologies and Arti cial Intelligence are transforming the education landscape, providing powerful new tools for teachers to present engaging, inter- active lesson content. Our Education Conference will host experts, present real-world case studies, provide insight into this tech and examine how schools and universities are using it to change the way they educate, while exploring how the students of the future will interact and immerse themselves in content.

Session details coming soon. Please note: This specialised session is open to teachers (attending with an Educator pass) and Conference Pass Holders only and will focus on equipping educators with the tools to disseminate the latest ideas surrounding future tech.
